Happy New Year members and friends, and welcome to our new website. It was designed and built by our very own Jim and we’re really happy with our little corner of the internet, and look forward to you all using it as we bring you all the up to date news and events in the world of West Ham and it’s LGBTQ+ supporters.

Is there a better way to deal with the long, winter evenings of January than with a pub quiz? Well, Pride of Irons didn’t think so and last night we hosted our second quiz night at the Bangers pub in Moorgate, and a real success it was. With over eight teams battling it out to win some excellent prizes everyone went away a little bit drunk and a little bit more knowledgeable on obscure British TV Sitcoms and the phonetic alphabet.

The winning team were our good friends over at Stop! Hammer Time. When asked about their victorious ways the team advised their inspiring motto had been “Victory or Death” and that the half time talk from their manager told them to “respect the point.” Along with a second half change in formation the team raced ahead to win with a respectable 67 points and the coveted prize of a guided tour of The London Stadium.

The most anticipated prize of the evening (for us at least) though came with the half time raffle; a signed West Ham shirt donated to us by the Club. Congratulations to Andrew Neil on winning, but commiserations on being a Nottingham Forest fan. We hope your business partner Laurence who is a decent sounding man and a West Ham season ticket holder to boost will enjoy the shirt on your behalf.

Thank you to all who came along and supported the group and made the evening a real success, with particular thanks to West Ham, The FA and The Premier League for your kind donations in prizes.

Pride of Irons are excited with how the group is growing. With nearly 150 members we feel we can be a real voice and presence for all West Ham LGBTQ+ fans and friends, and feel proud of the relationship we have with the Club. We appreciate any feedback you have and encourage you to leave any thoughts or issues you’d like us to raise for future club events or committee meetings in the comments below.

With February on its way we’d like to wish you all a happy and safe LGBTQ+ awareness month, and as always, COYI!
